Laguvulin - Single Islay Malt Whisky - Aged 16 years - 43% vol

2nd time around for Laguvulin, having scored dismally the first time. However, with saying that, the circumstances surrounding the first tasting did not lend themselves to the event. Guinness and a chinese takeaway prior to the tasting all but destroyed the tasters ability to offer a informed opinion. This time was different. Everything was carefully orchestrated to ensure maximum enjoyment of the malt. The result, as you can see, is proof indeed that Laguvulin is an exceptional malt. Rob and Alex still claim they prefer the slightly deeper nose and flavour of Laphroaig, but everyone was in agreement that this was one of the best we had tasted to date. Comments ranged from "Wow, this is great" to "This has to be the best I've ever had". The nose on it was peaty with a touch of iodine and seaweed (not quite as "in your face" that makes Laphroaig so distinctive). The taste was smooth, with a distinctive peaty taste that makes it so recognisable as an Islay malt.
