Bowmore -
Islay Single Malt Whisky - Aged 12 years - 43% vol
Having already sampled a bottle of Bowmore "SURF" the previous night (courtesy of Adam), a few of us had a good idea of what the 12 yo would be like. Unfortunately , it didnt seem
to rate as highly as the slightly cheaper "Surf". If you closed your eyes while nosing it, you could conjure up images of a
fire burning on a beach, with wet peat being thrown on top. Add a drop of water, and the image is similar, but some-one is digging up soil and peat next to it. The water really helps to open up the aroma on this malt. The taste was as good as the
nose, with a burnt oak/peaty feel to it, bringing to light the spicy/seaweedy flavour. This is definitely a malt that will grace the cabinets again (although the other Islay's will still take preference.) When the bottle was finished, John played the part of the gracious host, and pulled out a bottle of Aberlour 10 yo. The flavour against the Bowmore was extremely bland, but with saying that, nobody argued about finishing the bottle off. (The local co-op was running a special on the Aberlour - GBP 12.99).
This bottle was purchased by Adam from Cape Town Duty Free for ZAR 169.00
